Meet Dreyfus, a gorgeous young, Golden Retriever Chow Shepherd mix that probably may be one of the most affectionate dogs that ever walked this earth. He has a limitless supply of hugs and kisses for every one and gets along great with dogs and cats. However, despite his wonderful disposition, Dreyfus has not had it easy in this life. Dreyfus has difficulty walking from a traumatic injury suffered when he was young. Dreyfus has a right forelimb, that due to a traumatic injury that was never addressed, is now locked in position with a severely contracted and shortened bicep muscle limiting his elbow from extension. The right shoulder is locked in flexion and will not allow for extension, and the muscles have atrophied from non-use. Dreyfus, the poor guy, also suffers from dysplasia in both (rear) hips. However, it is not all sad news for this little guy as he is on the road to recovery (long as it may be). After numerous visits to four different vets and undergoing multiple x-rays, Dreyfus found his way into the office of Dr. Sherman Canapp (DVM, MS) of the Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine Group (VOSM) in Ellicott City, Maryland. You can read all about how Dreyfus is doing, follow him through treatment and recovery, and cheer this little guy on as he strives to land on all four paws by visiting the Dreyfus Blog, updated twice weekly. As for the personality of this loveable little chow boy, with all of this going on, Dreyfus is beautiful and loves life, people, and other animals. He will offer anyone his poor paw (which he can hold straight up to appear like he is waiving). He will even hold hands with you until he slowly falls backwards (because he sits like a panda bear and slowly loses balance). Dreyfus definitely is a unique and funny little character that needs as much help as he can find. We helped rescue Dreyfus from being put to sleep and brought him back to our area to help him recover and find him a new home. However, we desperately need financial sponsors for Dreyfus because he will need extensive medical treatment, physical therapies, and most likely multiple surgeries. Although Homeward Trails is generously making sure Dreyfus is getting all of the medical care he needs, Dreyfus does not want to take resources away from other animals that need rescuing. Dreyfus is, after all, a very proud little man. We hope to raise enough money to cover Dreyfus' medical costs so that Homeward Trails can continue to save the lives of countless other animals that will otherwise not see a new dawn. Please consider donating ANY AMOUNT to Dreyfus so that he may walk and play again like every other dog. Please make any donations out to Homeward Trails and mail them to P.O. Box 100968, Arlington, VA 22210. Please be sure to place his name on the donation in the memo box. You can also donate directly through the their website. However, please also email me when you donate at pawboysandgirls@yahoo.com so that we know the donation is for Dreyfus and so that Dreyfus may thank-you. ANY DONATIONS are a HUGE help. Homeward Trails is a 501c non-profit, and more information can be found on their website. Our only role with Homeward Trails is as Dreyfus' foster and caretaker. Please contact the organization directly for any questions concerning a dog other than Dreyfus. Thanks so much for having such a big heart.... |
